Program in development

Main & Horizon

One program, three pathways. Mentorship serves high school youth, students and young people entering employment; workshops support each group too. Initial activities will roll out in stages.

Main & Horizon

A community to support young people.

Listening, sharing and preparation are central to our approach to mentorship.

Explore our approach

The core of the program

Two complementary forms of support.

01 / THE RELATIONSHIP

Mentorship with an Ally

A screened and prepared adult volunteer, supported by a program coordinator. A relationship centred on listening, strengths and the young person’s goals. Meetings are planned online; in-person meetings depend on availability and safeguards.

02 / THE PRACTICE

Small-group workshops

Exercises, discussion and tools for each stage. Initial topics under consideration: setting a goal, organizing time, communicating strengths and preparing a transition. Format and dates to be confirmed.

A clear journey

From first contact to follow-up.

Listen and orient

Understand goals, age and needs; discuss what the program can realistically offer.

Prepare and safeguard

Screen and prepare Allies; explain boundaries and obtain appropriate consent for minors.

Support

Match when appropriate, organize meetings and offer relevant workshops when available.

Review progress

Gather feedback from the young person and Ally, adjust goals and document learning.

Safeguarding and limits

Clear boundaries for everyone.

Applying does not automatically create a match. Before any contact with a minor, we explain the format, complete screening requirements and obtain necessary consent. Mentorship complements family, school and community support.

Allies are not therapists, financial advisers or recruiters. Needs beyond their role should be directed to appropriate services.

For ages 13–17

A parent or guardian participates in consent. Current forms are for initial contact and assessment only.

Need help now?

A crisis needs specialist support.

In Canada, call or text 9-8-8 if you or someone close to you is thinking about suicide. In immediate danger, call 9-1-1. Hand of Emmanuel forms are not an emergency service.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

Has the program started?

Main & Horizon is in development. The forms collect expressions of interest, not confirmed enrolments. Launch dates will be announced when the necessary arrangements are in place.

Who can request a mentor?

Young people aged 13 and older in secondary school, postsecondary studies or the transition to employment. A parent or guardian applies for ages 13–17. Adults aged 18 and older can apply for themselves.

How will meetings work?

Meetings are planned online. In-person meetings may be considered depending on availability and safeguards. Frequency and duration will be explained before any commitment.

What does a mentor do?

The volunteer mentor, called an Ally, listens and supports the young person’s goals. They do not replace a parent or health professional and do not guarantee school admission or employment.

Is participation free?

Participation arrangements and any costs will be explained before joining. No payment is requested through the interest form.

How will young people be protected?

Before any match, the organization must complete mentor screening and preparation, explain boundaries and obtain appropriate consent. An initial enquiry does not authorize contact between a mentor and a minor.

Can I donate online?

Online payment is not yet available. The contribution page prepares an email to discuss arrangements; it does not charge money. No charitable tax receipt is promised at this stage.
