The first steps
As a young couple, Serge and Grace begin supporting young people through listening, guidance and practical help. Growing needs reveal the importance of organizing this support and involving other caring adults.
Who we are
Hand of Emmanuel is an Ottawa-based nonprofit. We want young people to find attentive adults, opportunities to learn and confidence to shape their path.

Main & Horizon
Mentorship and practical workshops help young people build confidence and move toward their goals.
Explore our approachOur purpose
We believe a young person moves forward when someone gives them time, recognizes their strengths and helps them see possibilities.
Our first program, Main & Horizon, is in development in Ottawa. It connects one-to-one mentorship and practical workshops across three pathways: secondary school, postsecondary studies and career entry.
We welcome young people from all backgrounds and pay attention to barriers faced by racialized youth and other underserved groups.
Our story
2009
As a young couple, Serge and Grace begin supporting young people through listening, guidance and practical help. Growing needs reveal the importance of organizing this support and involving other caring adults.
2020
After moving to Canada, they focus on challenges facing young people, particularly those from minority communities: isolation, school difficulties and access to networks and employment. This experience strengthens their commitment to lasting support.
Hand of Emmanuel gives structure to this commitment. Today, Main & Horizon is being developed around mentorship and practical workshops.
Our co-founders

Co-founder and chief executive officer
Grace is a human resources and communications professional with more than 15 years of corporate experience. After a career break to focus on her children, she took the lead at Hand of Emmanuel. Supporting young people since 2009, she brings her experience to the program and the organization’s development.

Co-founder and board member
A management and business development professional, Serge has supported young people alongside Grace since 2009. He contributes to Hand of Emmanuel’s strategy and partnerships, believing that a trusting relationship can help each young person build their future.
Our principles
Start with each young person’s goals, strengths and context.
Screen and prepare Allies; define role boundaries and obtain appropriate consent for minors.
Track activity and progress, gather young people’s feedback and adjust the model.
Our role
An Ally complements support from family, school and community organizations. They do not replace a parent, health professional or academic adviser. Meetings and workshops will roll out according to volunteer, partner and resource capacity.
